Options for Weekly EMDR Sessions
Initial Meeting and Preparing for EMDR
We’ll begin with an intake session. This is important for us to get to know each other and lay the foundation for our work together.
During this session, we will focus on:
Your therapist will ask you about your personal history, current challenges, and the specific issues you want to address. This helps you identify the memories or targets that will be the focus of your EMDR sessions.
In this phase, we’ll work on equipping you with the tools and coping strategies necessary for managing distress during the intensive. This preparation ensures you feel safe, supported, and ready to begin the deeper work.
Together, we’ll identify and discuss the specific memories, beliefs, and physical sensations that need reprocessing. This step allows us to create a clear, targeted treatment plan tailored to your needs.
Moving into the Healing Phases of EMDR
With a clear target and a strong foundation in place, we’ll begin the active phases of EMDR to help your brain reprocess difficult experiences and support lasting healing.
During the intensive, we will use bilateral stimulation to help you reprocess traumatic memories. This phase is where you begin to lessen the emotional charge associated with these memories, allowing you to move forward.
As we process the memories, we’ll work to reinforce positive beliefs that emerge, helping you replace negative self-perceptions with empowering thoughts.
We’ll ensure that any physical responses associated with the trauma have been fully released. This step is crucial for integrating the healing work into your body and mind.
At the end of each session, we’ll use techniques to help you regain balance and feel grounded, ensuring that you leave the session feeling safe and stable.
Follow-Up Reflection Session
We’ll have a follow-up session to check in on how you’re feeling and reflect on the work you’ve completed. This is a valuable time to discuss any concerns, celebrate your progress, and determine if additional sessions are needed. We want to ensure you feel supported as you integrate the changes into your life.
We’ll review your progress and address any remaining concerns. This phase allows us to assess how the work has integrated and plan any next steps for continued healing.
